Maria Gazouli, Biologist, is Professor of Biology – of Nanomedicine at the Biology Laboratory of the School of Medicine of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA). She completed her 1st PhD thesis at the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of EKPA in collaboration with Hellenic Pasteur Institute and her 2nd Ph.D thesis at the Laboratory of Microbiology, School of Medicine of EKPA. He did postdoctoral training in USA in the Department of Cell Biology and Pharmacology, at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington DC.
The research project of Dr. M. Gazouli focuses mainly on the molecular basis of diseases mainly autoimmune/inflammatory diseases and cancer, at molecular detection of pathogens and in the investigation of disease pathogenesis causing to humans. Recently, Dr. Gazouli has been dealing with integration of nanotechnology in targeted cancer detection, imaging and drug delivery.
Dr. Gazoulis’ research has resulted in >250 international publications that have received >11000 citations with h-index=56 (Google scholar). She holds 1 international patent and 3 European ones. He has given more than 50 invited guests lectures in international/national conferences and universities and has trained several younger scientists.
Dr. Gazoulis teaches Biology and Genetics to undergraduate medical students and has contributed to the translation of biology books into Greek. He also teaches various aspects of Molecular Biology and Nanomedicine in Masters Programs of EKPA, and in other universities in Greece and abroad. Today he is a National Representative in the Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT) of European Medicines Agency.
